Starting A Family Garden

Posted On: 2012-07-20

My husband and I have become increasingly aware of how important it is to be self-sufficient. Specifically, food needs. We began composting a few months back but unfortunately it wasn't going to yield enough rich soil soon enough to start a garden, so we went to the local plant farm to get the items we needed.

We started small with just a few herbs, a variety of tomato plants, and some other started plants like lettuce, spinach, and onions. We planted carrot seeds as well and after just a few weeks already see sprouts from them!

This has been a neat experience to share with the kids. I can't wait to be able to ask my son to go pull a few carrots from the garden for dinner. We plan to setup a second garden once we get the hang of this one.
