Toddler Bed Transition

Posted On: 2011-03-30

On March 1st, 2011 I decided to convert my son's crib to a toddler bed. He had not learned how to crawl out of his crib yet but it just felt like a good time to do it. I made sure to do it while he was home and able to help because I think it actually made the transition for him easier.

First I replaced the drop side with a safety rail that I had purchased from Amazon and let him inspect it. Then I put all of his usual blankets, pillow, and musical bear in it. He immediately knew how to get up into it and jumped in delight. About thirty minutes after we made the transition, the house got quiet and I found that he had put his Elmo, "Bachy" the duck, his "B" which is his duck blanket, and a bunch of his ball pit balls in the bed and was laying in it!

The real test came that night to see if he would stay in bed all night... and HE DID! In fact naps and bedtime were really easy for the first seven days because we kept the usual routine and it worked well.
