Unexpected Expenses

Just when you think things are going smoother, an unexpected expense comes up. The month of July was a clear example of this for us.

The first unexpected expense came after the heat spread a ding in our cars windshield 10 inches in about 6 hours! It had finally crossed the driver's view and we had to get it replaced as soon as possible. Thankfully most windshield services come to your home so I didn't need to worry about being stranded somewhere for hours with a toddler.  A little note for those that have dings: most car insurances will waive the deductible to fix dings and cracks less than 1-2"... they won't however waive the deductible for a windshield replacement. If you are like me and have a $500 deductible, it doesn't make sense to even think about putting it through insurance because the replacement cost was around $450.

The second unexpected expense is our microwave. It decided overnight to crack the outside glass. We have no idea what happened and while it looks like it had an impact point there was nothing around that could have been thrown at it and everyone was sleeping when it happened. I am currently in the process of seeing if our warranty covers it so we'll see how Whirlpool does on this one. The manufacturer's of our home informed me that replacing the door would probably cost about $150... JUST THE DOOR, doesn't include labor!

The third and final expense wasn't so unexpected but necessary. We had to get our gutters cleaned out because we have a bunch of trees behind us and on the side of us that got them really clogged up. After noticing that some of the debris was trying to grow from there we decided it was time to get them cleaned out. I would have totally attempted it except my husband won't let me and I'd rather not risk it while I am pregnant but next year it's on! ~$175

Anyway, always plan ahead for unexpected expenses because they will come and knock out your checking account if you aren't careful!
